Our mission is to educate, enrich, and encourage underprivileged students struggling with reading by providing a free summer camp in a Christian environment. We serve campers residing in Transylvania County ages 9-12 who are at least a year below their reading level and qualify for the NC free/reduced-cost lunch program. Most of our campers are referred by the Augustine Literacy Project-Brevard.
In its 23rd year of operations, The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We serve school-aged youth, ages 5 to 18, year-round through a comprehensive approach that emphasizes engaging and evidence-based programming combined with authentic relationship-building and social/emotional support that serves the whole child. We provide a positive, inclusive, and safe environment for our members to engage in learning, recreation, and companionship. Our programs are facilitated by caring, compassionate, and dedicated staff with the goal of impacting children's lives within the following outcome areas: academic success, good character and citizenship, the arts, and health and wellness.
The mission of the Bread of Life Free Community Kitchen is to provide nutritious meals in a safe and secure environment and to share our food with those in need in Transylvania County.
Since 1923, the Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce has served as a community partner, advocate, and resource for the local business community. It has over 450 members, consisting of businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals, from throughout Transylvania County. The Center for Women is a Christ-centered ministry serving women and families who are facing unplanned pregnancies and/or parenting challenges. We strive to help our ladies succeed not just at parenting, but at life. Our services not only include free ultrasounds and support through pregnancy, but we also offer classes and groups for mothers and fathers.
The Haven shall assist families and individuals in crisis in Transylvania County by providing safe temporary refuge in a clean, comfortable shelter.” We provide respite for those who have suddenly or unexpectedly fallen into homelessness or those who may be chronically homeless. The Haven is a safe, secure place where people can be helped to get back onto their feet.
